Migajas (Lima)

Migajas blew my mind back in 2006 when I first listened to them at a band contest. Since then, I grew more and more disappointed with this kind of events, no wonder since rock is not supposed to be a f*cking competition. Anyway, Migajas didn't win (some pusilanimous soul-less band did), but I got to listen to them some few more times and they didn't disappointed me at all, but I eventually lost track of them. Some weeks ago, however, I learned that they have edited an EP in 2010, Anomatopeya, which you can listen to below:

Autobús (Lima)

Back in 2007, I had some acquintances who played in a band and invited me to the release concert of their first EP. Even if some of them were good musicians, some elements of the band were just beyond any hope. They pretty much sucked. So did their EP. But the night, I must say, was not a complete waste since I got to listen Autobús for the very first time. Naturally, the band stole the evening. Since then, Autobús has moved from opening for the shitty band in whose concert I first listened to them, to sharing the stage with Franz Ferdinand and The Killers when they played in Peru. The band has also produced two albums, the self-titled Autobús in 2008 and Máquina Destrucción in 2011, which you can listen to below.

Their webpage is almost not worth the visit (it just shows their latest video). However, it has links to their Facebook page, YouTube channel, and Twitter and MySpace profiles.

Gaia (Lima)

Once upon a time, a friend of mine once introduced me to Gaia's music. Even if he ever would have stabbed me in the back and then pissed all over my dying body, I would still be absolutely thankful to him. Gaia started back in 2001 and so far has produced four albums: Solar de Sara (2001), Anfibio (2005), La teoría de volar (2007) and Giroscopios, Coordenadas y la Fábrica de Nubes (2011). You can listen to the latter here:

The complete band's discography is available for free downloading from its webpage (specifically from http://www.gaia.pe/descargas.html; the first link under each album is the one for downloading the whole of it). Make sure to visit their Facebook page as well.

Detonador (Arequipa)

Arequipa has always been a proud city (and jokes about this fact are common ground in Peru). Personally, I think Arequipa has enough reasons to consider itself an outstanding place: an awesome weather almost all year round, absolutely delicious food, beautiful landscapes, streets full of history. And, of course, one more reason is Detonador. So you think grunge is dead? Now listen to these guys and think again. This is their first album, Eternidad ("Eternity" in Spanish), issued in 2009.

More info on the band can be found at its Facebook page. You might also take a look at its Reverbnation profile, which has some live and demo tunes.
